Economic development and environment degradation are usually believed to be two sides of the same coin. Many studies have shown that even though the results of increased economic activity (at the cost of environment) may initially help in reducing inequalities but in the long run, the waste and pollution will severely impact the quality of life which will eventually put economy at risk. It’s important that the development should take place with an equitable use of resources and minimal environmental impact. In the context of developing countries like India; sustainable development acquires a lot of importance.
In India, due to its equally large urban and rural population, the environment is degrading due to pollution in urban areas and excess resources consumption in rural areas. If we continue to concentrate on development and neglect the environment, we will end up causing irreversible damage to the environment and jeopardize human survival. It can only be avoided by taking necessary steps, now. Many NGOs (placed in rural as well as urban areas) are addressing the concerned environmental issues in a systematic manner. Simple steps such as planting trees in urban areas and providing bio-fuels in rural areas are making large impact. Many NGOs have dedicated themselves to Protecting and Managing the Natural Resources around their locations. You too can be part of this greater effort with your small donations towards the causes for environmental sustainability.
