Considerable progress has been made in improving the health of Indian citizens, but the current health status still fares badly in comparison to other developing countries. Even with large spending on health care by the government, the universal access to health care in India is still a distant dream. With the rising income inequality and poverty, the poor are unable to afford and access hospitalization, even when it is absolutely required. The burden of associated expenses and ill health is pushing them to further poverty.
While the government is taking many steps to provide health care to its citizens, many NGOs are playing a crucial role in preventive care (which in fact is more important) by creating awareness on hygiene, disease prevention, family planning and drugs distribution. These NGOs are working at the grassroots and tackling the disease at its roots. Additionally, there are many NGOs who actively raise funds to support the poor in undergoing major treatments in specialty hospitals. With our support, it is not only possible to improve the effectiveness of healthcare programs but also the general health of population which can contribute greatly to the progress of the society.
